Turning 50, Running 10Ks, and Rewriting the Rules of Real Estate

Grit, growth, and stepping into a new chapter
Darcy Staberg

This past year, I turned 50. And while I don’t usually make a big deal about birthdays, this one felt different. Not because of the number—but because of how far I’ve come.

Over the past year, I’ve laced up running shoes and finished not one, but two 10K races and now training for a Half Marathon. If you know me, you know that wasn’t something I ever saw myself doing. I am very competitive by nature but I’m not a natural athlete. I’ve lived with physical limitations since a car accident in high school that still affects me to this day. But I wanted to challenge myself. I wanted to push the limits of what I thought I could do not just physically but mentally.

That same grit is what built my real estate business.

I’ve never been the loudest voice in the room. I’m an introvert. I’m not big on social media, and I don’t chase likes or followers. But what I do chase is excellence. I’ve built my business on referrals, repeat clients, and quiet consistency—because that’s who I am. I show up, I do the work, and I put my clients’ needs above all else.

And now, I’m ready for more.

Not more in the sense of flashy branding or viral posts—but more in the way that matters. More depth. More intention. More value for the people I serve. I’ve decided to start writing regularly—sharing stories, insights, and experiences, both personal and professional. I’ll post every two weeks. Sometimes it’ll be about the market. Sometimes it’ll be about life. But every time, it’ll be real.

Because that’s what this business needs more of: real people, real care,  and real commitment.

Thanks for being part of the journey—whether you’re a past client, a referral, or just curious to follow along. Let’s make this next chapter meaningful.
